I can’t be the only one to notice that the good guy’s faction always start with R.

Original Trilogy: Rebellion.

Prequel: Republic.

Sequel: Resistance.

Shoot even in the Old Republic era the good guys were the, well, Old Republic.

That reminds me…how in the fuck are they going to do anything? The Rebellion in the original trilogy was an actual rebellion, with military resources and financing. Near as I can tell they have, at best, a few shieldless shuttles and a decades old freighter. They wanted so desperately to hammer in the “all you need is a spark of hope” themes that they went too far in the opposite direction, to the point where it is legitimately difficult to believe they’ll be able to do anything at all aside from martyring themselves for future generations which consist of people with even less firepower! It’s not a powerful message of hope when you write yourselves into a corner that requires Bleach-level asspulls to get out of.

Then again, knowing this narrative Rey is probably going to become the Light Side version of EU Palpatine and start throwing Force storms out like they were candy. Rule 63 Jedi Broly away!

Considering the whole “Spark of hope” and the final scene with the slave kid, I imagine there’s gonna be a time skip between Eps 8 and 9.

Oh the Resistance is just a couple of punks with no weapons or resources right now? Well cut to 30 years later and suddenly they have their own Death Stars and army of porgs.

No don’t you see they have “Animal handler slave boy” that’s all they need to win!

But seriously they shot themselves in the foot with that one. I read a rumor (Very likely untrue) where there was talks about “Fixing” TLJ in book form, you know backstory and filling in plot holes. Well in the rumor, they had it where Admiral Ackbar told other Resistance leaders not to help them out, fearing a trap, and so the idea is that the Resistance is much bigger and this ship is only one pocket of it. It also explains that’s why the First Order don’t jump ahead five feet to start blasting them because they wanted to lure out the rest of the Resistance, thinking having the General and leadership in peril would do that, so that’s why they kept up the slow chase. But like I said rumors and likely not very much weight to them.

PORG JEDI!!!

Problem is? The only people who would take that spark seriously are all slave kids and moisture farmers, running against a military force that has utterly eclipsed the Empire and fielding the most deranged and ruthless Sith in years. It’s basically gonna wind up looking like the Ewoks vs the Empire if they only skip 30 years.

@EotD
Fuck it, that’s my headcanon, that’s actually something that makes sense.
@TheAbridgenator
But when people hear the story of how one guy stood up to a barrage of walker blasters and was unharmed they’ll instantly believe it and rise up against the First Order.

I thought about calling them that but I wanted to be proper about it cause I like those guys.

And then get mowed down because that man died to create that spark, thus taking the potential forest fire he could have caused on his own with him.

I seriously wonder if Leia was supposed to have a larger role in Ep 9, considering the ridiculous Force power she showed herself to have and being left alive while Luke died.

Kind of what the rumor states. The basic of said rumor is that there will be a book to fill in the holes and fix the mistakes of some of TLJ’s plot. Some elements include The Ackbar plot, there being a traitor aboard, which is why Holdo didn’t explain her plan, the Resistance thinking it might be Finn who’s betraying them, which is why Poe sends him out to the casino planet, to get away from those people, and stuff like Snoke’s backstory. Like I said Rumor and very likely not true.

If you want to see it though: https://www.cosmicbooknews.com/crazy-rumor-says-disney-fixing-star-wars-last-jedi
there being a traitor aboard, which is why Holdo didn’t explain her plan,

See, that would give a perfectly reasonable explanation for her actions, fill in the biggest plot hole in the film, and it would have taken all of 30 seconds of screen time to explain. Why didn’t they think to include something like that?

Admiral Ackbar… fearing a trap

Yep, sounds about right.

Because you like Poe expected an explanation so they needed to subvert that expectation.

So instead of letting her die with dignity they let her live with…erm…
full
…yeah.
@Darth Prime
To be fair, that was more adjusting existing EU stuff and minor plot points and less fixing open wound plot holes.

That’s one thing I don’t get? They killed off the wrong character, Luke should’ve lived until Episode IX and Leia should’ve died, not the other way around.
