Axar was the fourth Indian batter to return back to the pavilion on Sunday. Before getting out, the 31-year-old cricketer from Anand in Gujarat hammered three fours and one six. He added 98 runs for the fourth wicket with Shreyas Iyer to help India bounce back from 30/3 in 6.4 overs and reach 128/4 in 29.2 overs at the time of his dismissal.
Indian team management had promoted Axar to bat ahead of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya at No. 5 in the last Group A match, and he lived up to the expectations by playing a crucial knock.
Kohli out for 11 in 300th match
The ongoing match in Dubai is Virat Kohli’s 300th ODI for India, but the right-handed batter failed to do much with the bat. He made a positive start in the match but failed to convert it into a big knock. Kohli was caught by Glenn Phillips on the fourth ball of the seventh over of the Indian innings bowled by Matt Henry. Kohli scored 11 runs from 14 balls in his 300th match.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma and world No. 1 ODI batter Shubman Gill also failed to do much with the bat in the match against New Zealand. While Rohit was dismissed for 15 runs by Kyle Jamieson, Henry trapped Gill in front of the wickets for 2 runs from seven balls.
For the last Group A match of the Champions Trophy 2025, the India team management has made one change to the playing XI. In place of Harshit Rana, mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy is playing for Men in Blue.
